Office Olympics and customer service make Pure Telecom a great place to work
eircom Wholesale, Ireland's largest wholesale communications services provider, has been chosen by Pure Telecom to provide wholesale telecoms services in a deal valued at 20 million over the next two years. The partnership will focus on providing high-speed broadband and telephone services to Pure Telecom's business and residential customers across Ireland.
The partnership means Pure Telecom customers can connect to eircom Wholesale's high-speed fibre broadband, which offers speeds of up to 100Mb/s to 1.2 million homes and businesses nationwide, a figure which represents approximately 50% of the total premises in Ireland. This will rise to 70% by 2016, and 80% by 2020, by which time 35% of all premises will have broadband speeds of 1Gb/s (1,000Mb/s).
Pure Telecom's customers will be among the first to access eircom Wholesales 1Gb/s Fibre to the Home (FTTH) service when it launches later this year.
Speaking about the agreement, Peter Clarke, director of sales, marketing, international and customer service at eircom Wholesale said: Partnering with eircom Wholesale means Pure Telecom customers have access to the largest high-speed fibre network in Ireland. With 1,000Mb/s speeds launching in September, Pure's customers will have access to the fastest broadband speeds available here, ensuring they remain at the cutting edge of broadband developments in Ireland
Paul Connell, Director, Pure Telecom, added: Our industry is changing. Our business customers need faster broadband so they can compete competitively both domestically and internationally. Furthermore, consumer demands are increasing. Smartphones, Netflix, and social media are among the tools that are redefining the way people communicate and resetting needs and expectations; and not just for city dwellers.
Niamh Pigott, team leader of the revenue optimization team, Pure Telecom
Tell us about your career to date at Pure Telecom:
I've worked with Pure Telecom for six years now. I started off as a member of the customer service team in 2009 and spent two years in customer service. It was a fantastic way to learn about the business and get familiar with different types of customers and what they were looking for. I really enjoyed my time there. Following that, I moved into the revenue optimization team, which is more sales focussed and rooted in customer service. I spent another two years there before becoming a team leader. I've been in this position for two years now there seems to be a pattern of two-year increments emerging!
What does your typical day involve?
The revenue optimization team is all about sales and driving customer numbers, using stellar customer service to support it all. Every day is different, overall it's a busy and very dynamic environment. I'm never bored! One thing I've learned is that no two customers are the same. We have business customers who want the best deals on broadband and data packages and look to us to solve their telecommunications needs. Our business customers care about upload speeds and download speeds, fast and reliable connections, and getting the best value.
Our home customers also look for the best value and they want to take the hassle out of finding the best broadband, TV or phone deal They come to us for a solution that means they can stream Netflix, play Xbox online and download a film, more than likely all at the same time.
What's the most challenging thing about your role?
Like any job, it can get very busy and demanding, but there are huge rewards that come alongside it, especially when you deal directly with customers and are on the receiving end of positive feedback. Customer service is what makes us tick and it's a fundamental part of every role within the organization.
What do you enjoy most about your role in Pure Telecom?
There's a number of things that come to mind straight away, one being the people I work with. They're a really great bunch. It's a demanding industry and like most jobs, it can get hectic at times, but work life is so much easier when you have like-minded colleagues and open communication between departments and management. There's also a great opportunity here in terms of progression, as you can tell from my journey to my current position.
How does Pure Telecom create a good work culture?
Well there's very open communication, as I mentioned, but on top of that we are a very social crowd! We recently held the inaugural Pure Telecom Office Olympics. As you can imagine, things got very creative There were events like Office Chair Races, Who Can Build The Longest Paperclip Chain? and the coveted title of Fastest Holepuncher was also up for grabs!
We're a social bunch and we're very caring too, so we like to give back to the community. We support a number of charities through cake sales and fundraisers in the office and the company also supports the Make A Wish Foundation.
